Sam Strand
Safety Scientist responsible for Food Safety & Allergy, in Unilever’s Safety, Environmental and Regulatory Sciences (SERS) organisation. She is an experienced risk assessor and project manager, with 19 years of experience in industry. Her background spans all aspects of toxicology, with a focus on protein allergy, across Cosmetics, Home Care & Foods. Sam also leads a multi-disciplinary team delivering SERS expertise to Unilever Novel Foods innovations and works closely with suppliers and other stakeholders to share and leverage Unilever capability in application of non-animal safety strategies. Sam will provide perspectives from the food industry as well as expertise in novel foods risk assessment and management, with a particular focus on food allergy.
Dr. Stella Cochrane
Regulatory Science Leader (Food Allergy and Immunology) in Unilever’s Safety, Environmental and Regulatory Science organisation (SERS). Dr Cochrane is an experienced science leader, project leader and risk assessor with over 20 years’ experience gained working in academia and industry. She has expertise in immunology / immunotoxicology with a focus on protein allergy and provides scientific expertise and leadership, covering risk assessment and risk management of consumer products and ingredients including foods and novel food proteins. Dr Cochrane is also responsible for the development and application of new, non-animal, human-focused approaches to immunotoxicological risk assessment, including research into mechanisms of allergic sensitization. Dr Cochrane is actively involved in food allergy-related external, multi-partner, multi-national taskforces and has been an active participant in EU-wide projects focused on food allergy. Dr Cochrane is co-chair of Food Drink Europe’s Allergen Steering Group, chair of the UK Food and Drink Federation Allergen Steering Group and a member of UK Committee on Toxicity. Unilever also have experience in post-launch monitoring of foods for safety purposes (18).
